4/15/10: We have spent a quiet three months here now and are almost ready to flee the hot and turbulent times. One of the benefits of senior-living in Tampa is the OLLI program at the University of South Florida. We have been attending sessions there for three years now. There is no better senior program in the country that I am aware of. This year, we took two six week long courses: Great Decisions and Film Comedies, both of which were captivating and satisfying. Both the instructors and the participants were knowlegeable and articulate. We also have attended several one day events that are fun and informative. 4/7/09: We went to a wonderful concert at Gregg and
Gloria's last night to see the Rowan Brothers and Sue
Cunningham. Sue's playing showed just how much a bowed
instrument enhances the character and mood of songs.
It reminded me of how much Stan Rogers' songs were helped
by Garnet's violin and Harry Chapin's dependended on
those cellists ( I think there were several.)
What we like about Florida.... Making many new friends and finding old friends who are already here or who are escaping the ice and snow up north. Many of our new friends we have made here are from the Unitarian Church in Tampa. They have a varied program of live music concerts and explorations, as well a great minister. It's still great fun to have people from the great white north come to visit. Lots of fun showing them what goes on in TBay and the rest of the sunshine state.
