RECRUITING NEW CUB SCOUT LEADERS

  • What leaders and other key adults in your pack will still be around next fall?
  • You will most likely lose a few and they must be replaced so your pack can continue to provide a quality program to the boys.

TIME LINE
FEB. Start at your Blue and Gold to take a LEADERSHIP INVENTORY.
Yes, it will take that long to get new folks on board - They will need to be selected, recruited, trained and mentored into your Cub Scouting world.
MAR Create a task force to plan your attack. Good candidates might include the Pack Trainer, the Pack Chairman, and the CR.
Make sure the have copies of the pamphlet: Selecting Cub Scout Leadership  #13-500, available from your Council Service Center.
APR Appoint your Roundup Chair and make sure she/he gets plenty of support.
If your plan includes SPRING RECRUITING, then be sure to:
  • Plan a GREAT SUMMERTIME PROGRAM so that those new Tigers and Wolves will start right in on the Adventure of Cub Scouting.
  • Who do we know in the graduating kindergarten class? Are there potential leaders or helpers that could help with the new Tigers? If so, let's talk to them now and introduce them to our program.
In any case, your pack should plan to earn the SUMMERTIME PACK AWARD.
MAY Start recruiting leaders and committee members from parents who are now in the pack. Get them through Fast Start and take them to training and Roundtable.
JUNE Start planning your fall roundup. Work with the school or church you recruit from to create helping relationships and strong communication links.
JULY Be visible in your neighborhood. Show up in uniform with flags for parades, community days or anywhere else that folks gather. Let everyone know you exist and that the boys are having fun.
AUG. Plan the details of your Roundup. Set dates, reserve rooms, order flyers, posters, yard signs and literature from your council. Plan the boy invitations and your rally evening in detail. Assign duties to as many different people as possible.
SEPT. Recruit all the parents who show up. Make sure that they understand the Parent Agreement in the boy's application before they sign him up.
Roundup is your opportunity to recruit new adult help. USE IT!!!!
OCT. Take (don't send) your new leaders to training and Roundtable.
Get the new Tigers and Cub Scouts out to some great activity - preferably outside - even CAMPING!
NOV. Start planning your next Blue and Gold
